What Do The Top Bloggers Drive?

I believe that cars can be an inspiring thing for other entrepreneurs, so I wanted to see what some of the top bloggers on the net have in their garage. I've compiled a list of some of the top bloggers, and what they drive.

What Do The Top Bloggers Drive?

Readers of my blog will know that I’m a huge car person, you can see my own progression of vehicles here. I’ll add my current stable of vehicles to the bottom of this post for new readers that are interested. I believe that cars can be an inspiring thing for other entrepreneurs (at least they inspire me), so I wanted to see what some of the top bloggers on the net have in their garage. I got in touch with a bunch of bloggers, and while not everybody responded, many did (for those that didn’t, contact me and maybe I’ll be able to do a part 2!). What I found is that many of the bloggers, even the ones that have a high net worth, don’t really drive anything insanely impressive…a few don’t even have a car. While seeing a top blogger driving around in a Ferrari is inspiring, it’s also inspiring to see some of these guys not have anything special.

On with the list:

John Chow

Current Car: Acura TL

If you had to buy a new car today, what would it be: Porsche Carrera GT

Porsche Carerra GT

What would you drive if money was no object: Chevy Volt

Chevy Volt

Jeremy Schoemaker

ShoeMoney

Current Car: H2 Hummer

If you had to buy a new car today, what would it be: I just went yesterday and looked at the 2008 h2. I do 1 payment 2 year leases and mine will be up this may.

What would you drive if money was no object: I would still drive a h2. I live in Nebraska (land of monster snow drifts) and it comes in handy to have a full time 4wd vehicle that I can also help other people with.

Shoemoney’s Hummer H2

Guy Kawasaki

How To Change The World

Current Car: Honda Odyssey, 2 Toyota Siennas, Audi S6 Avant

Audi Avant

If you had to buy a new car today, what would it be: Mercedes 2008 GL320 CDI SUV. The problem is that diesels aren’t sold in CA yet!

What would you drive if money was no object: Mercedes 2008 GL320 CDI SUV

Mercedes GL320 CDI

Rand Fishkin

SEOmoz

Current Car: I’ve actually never owned a car! I walk to work and grab a lift with my fiancée on the weekends :)

If you had to buy a new car today, what would it be: Probably the new Camry hybrid with the Prius style engine. Either that or the Volvo S80 - Vanessa Fox has one and I really liked it.

Volvo S80

What would you drive if money was no object: No car at all! I think the only way I manage to keep in shape is forcing myself to walk the 1.3 miles to work and back each day. If I got a car, I’d probably gain a couple pounds a week.

Carbon Fiber Gear

Chris Pirillo

Chris.Pirillo.com

Current Car: Acura RL | Lexus IS 250

Acura RL IS250

If you had to buy a new car today, what would it be: The geekiest one I could find.

What would you drive if money was no object: One with a steering wheel.

Darren Rowse

Pro Blogger

Current Car: Honda CRV Sport - our main family car (smallish 4WD) | Holden Barina - a run around (2 door hatch)

CRV Holden

If you had to buy a new car today, what would it be: It depends if I was buying it for fun or being responsible

Cars I like the look of:

Audi A4
Subaru Outback
VW Golf Polo

What would you drive if money was no object: Probably the Audi A4 - off the top of my head

Audi A4

Al Carlton

Self Made Minds

Current Car: I normally drive a clapped out Ford Mondeo, though it’s currently in the garage with a broken coil spring (or something).

Ford Mondeo

If you had to buy a new car today, what would it be: That is a strong possibility, if the family car can be fixed I want to get myself an Arial Atom or something similarly scary, other wise I’ll have to be sensible and get a new family motor, probably a Mercedes but undecided yet.

Ariel Atom

What would you drive if money was no object: A Lambo, though when money is no object I’ll have something of a fleet :)

Lamborghini Reventon

Pete Cashmore

Mashable

Current Car: Ha, don’t have one right now. ;)

Leon Ho

LifeHack

Current Car: I don’t drive any cars and vehicles after I moved to Hong Kong as the public transportation is quite convenient here. I drove a Honda Integra (Acura RSX) in Australia.

If you had to buy a new car today, what would it be: I would buy a Mazda RX8 or a Nissan 350Z

What would you drive if money was no object: Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano

Ferrari

Graham Hill

Tree Hugger

Current Car: None. The odd taxi when I’m lazy or it’s necessary.

If you had to buy a new car today, what would it be: I’d go with a zipcar or an electric car, ideally one that I could charge with my own solar panels. I’d also love it if zipcar could offer me a really wide range of transportation options e.g. bike, 3 wheel bike, bike with trailer, electric scooter, tiny car, medium car, large car, van, moving truck etc… This would allow me to use the smallest vehicle for the job.

Zip car logo

What would you drive if money was no object: I’d like to think that even if money wasn’t an object that I’d still act in the same manner. A Tesla electric does spring to mind but frankly I think I’d feel wasteful.

Scott Jones

Self Made Minds

Current Car: BMW X5 4.6is (V8)

BMW X5

If you had to buy a new car today, what would it be: Possibly an M5 or M6 BMW

What would you drive if money was no object: Lamborghini Reventon

Lamborghini Reventon

Scott Stanfield

Vertigo Software

Current Car: Mercedes C55 AMG | ‘65 T-Bird

Mercedes C55 AMG

If you had to buy a new car today, what would it be: Tesla Roadster

Tesla Roadster

What would you drive if money was no object: I’m still waiting for my jet pack.

John Biggs

CrunchGear

Current Car: Volkswagen Beetle

VW Beetle

If you had to buy a new car today, what would it be: Honda Civic Hybrid

What would you drive if money was no object: That electric car that’s faster than a jet plane or whatever.

Andrew Sullivan

The Daily Dish

Current Car: I don’t drive and cannot drive. I have no license and never learned. It’s saved me a fortune and the planet some grief.

Tyler Cruz

Tyler Cruz dot com

Current Car: 2004 Toyota Corolla. Interesting note, it only has 37,000 KM logged. Easy to do when you work from home…

Toyota Corolla

If you had to buy a new car today, what would it be: A 2007 Toyota Corolla, or maybe a Camry. I’m not a car-guy at all, and don’t drive all that much, so any comfortable, dependable ride is all I need. I am missing a few basic features in my car now though, that I wouldn’t mind having, such as power windows, GPS, etc. I also wouldn’t mind a v6 engine again (I used to own a Chevy Corsica). I’m not a speedster, and it’s rather wasteful on gas, but a v6 is just nice to have…

What would you drive if money was no object: Same as above.

Anthony Baggett

AntBag.com

Current Car: Dodge Dakota and a Nissan Maxima

Nissan Maxima Dodge Dakota

If you had to buy a new car today, what would it be: Probably either a Nissan Maxima, Toyota Camry, or Honda Accord.

What would you drive if money was no object: Whichever I could find that was the most comfortable. I prefer comfort to style.

Paul Stamatiou

Paul Stamatiou dot com

Current Car: I’m glad you’ve picked me to ask these questions to. I am a huge car nut. If I didn’t have a tech blog I would most definitely have a car blog. I drive a slightly modified 2002 Mustang GT with midpipe, catback exhaust upgrades, larger 13″ brakes from the Cobra, springs, struts, shocks, caster/camber plates, welded zinc sub-frame connector to firm up the chassis, plenum & throttle body, 18×9 wheels and tires, ECU reprogram, sparco racing seat and HID headlights, although they’re out ever since I did car registration.. you have to legally have a low and high beam in texas and most states.

Ford Mustang

If you had to buy a new car today, what would it be: As for what new car I would buy given a decent salary in the next few years, likely the new E92 BMW M3, Nissan GT-R or Corvette ZR1 (most likely the Z06 though). While the GT-R has a faster 0-60 of 3.5, the Z06 isn’t far at 3.7 and the engine isn’t nearly maxed out like the GT-R’s 6. Add $10k to the Z06 for a SC & exhaust system for 600HP+ and a 60 time of likely 3.4ish, which is the same as the tiptronic Porsche 997 gen 911 Turbo .. also another good pick.

Chevy Corvette Z06

What would you drive if money was no object: If money was no object, I would take an Ascari A10 and take it to Hamann to pimp out with dished, boost-friendly pistons and twin turbo it for something around 800HP. I’d also get them to drop in a beefier transmission and boost controller.. I can imagine running full boost all day would kill the gas tank. That work should put the A10 to be faster than the Veyron, which can’t handle well anyways.

Ascari A10

Neil Patel

Quick Sprout

Current Car: I drive an old Toyota 4Runner, which is currently my parents.

Toyota 4Runner

If you had to buy a new car today, what would it be: Maserati Quattroporte (Problem is convincing my parents to let me buy it ;) )

Maserati Quattraporte

What would you drive if money was no object: If I had unlimited money, I would still buy that car because it is luxurious and simple at the same time.

Takashi Yamada

Yanko Design

Current Car: I currently drive a 2008 Toyota Camry, this is because I find Totota’s are really reliable.
If you had to buy a new car today, what would it be: I just bought the 2008 Camry.

2008 Toyota Camry

What would you drive if money was no object: It would be the Lamborghini Reventon.

David Pitlyuk (Me)

David Pitlyuk dot com

Current Car: I currently have a 94 Dodge Viper, a 98 Honda Accord Coupe (This is my interim car as I just sold my Infiniti G35 Coupe and I’m figuring out what to get next), and an 02 Honda CBR600 F4i motorcycle.

My Cars

If you had to buy a new car today, what would it be: Realistically I’ve been looking at a few options such as a C6 Corvette, 5-series BMW, BMW M3, and Infiniti G37.

What would you drive if money was no object: If money was no object I would have a ton of cars, but if I could only choose one it would probably be a Koenigsegg CCX. The CCX would run about $600,000. I would be quite content with something like a Lamborghini Murcielago, but I like the rarity of the Koenigsegg. Not to say that Murcielago’s aren’t rare, but I work right near a Ferrari/Lamborghini/Maserati dealership…and I happen to see them often enough.

Koenigsegg CCX

    Great post Dave!

Well researched, and it was really interesting to see what the big guns drive. Keep up the good work.

  5. Derrich

    01/16/2008 5:34 pm

@ David: It’s a very decent price. I was surprised. My mother had a 2003 E430 back in 2003 and you’re right…those things live at the dealership. Extended warranty is my only solution, which I get everytime I purchase a new [used] car.

BTW, Dave. I think you and I match up best on taste in cars. Nice fleet.

  6. Mike Farho

    01/16/2008 5:37 pm

What a nice surprise to find Neil Patel is driving my car. We live in Abidjan Cote d’Ivoire. Our 1996 3.0 liter turbo diesel Hilux Surf is the Japanese version of the 4Runner in USA. It was just imported used from Japan. Paid about $19,000 USD, a good price here. It gets about 26 MPG. That is about the same as our previous vehicle, a 1999 Peugeot 406 station wagon that we sold for about $11,000.

@ Derrich: Let me know what you think if you pick up the E55

@Patrick: Thanks! I figured it was a little more original than some of the stuff out there…I guess for the 16 days the net has been around this year it’s pretty good ;)

I drive an Infiniti G35x… I love it! Just got it with a bit of help from blogging, and a lot from the ol 9-5. Hopefully my next one will be paid for fully by blogging! Excellent post!

    01/19/2008 3:26 am

Wow, its a nice variety of cars on that list. It’s interesting reading about the money no object cars. You’d think most would be the high $$ ones, but many aren’t.

  19. Natalie

    01/19/2008 3:50 am

Damn, I thought for sure that these bloggers had and drove nicer cars!

  20. Sean Morris

    01/19/2008 3:47 pm

Yuck , Camry or Corolla says “I use my car as an appliance”. No life.

At least a few guys have cool cars. Something more fun , than A-B appliance.

Money no object - too many of the bloggers lack any imagination… a Corolla , what ever is most comfortable.

I guess thats why they are bloggers , and not car people.

Ah, the love of the road, being behind the wheel . . . hard feeling to forego.

It’s actually one of the few true luxuries I’ve allowed myself, and once you go Bimmer (BMW), it’s hard to go back — well, at least I think it’s hard to go back — I’m on my second 5-series now and haven’t actually been tempted to switch to anything else, so how hard it would be to switch, of course, is pure speculation. Great mouth watering post though.

  22. Formula 1 Fun

    01/22/2008 3:15 am

My thoughts on some of the cars and what they say about their owners:

John Chow - Honda b0y (which is a good thing, Honda road cars rock.. their F1 cars on the other hand…)

Shoemoney - badass gangster pimp (just look at those wheels!!)

    Guy Kawasaki - Has taste.

Rand Fishkin - Camry? Prius? Volvo? Sunday driver.

Chris Pirillo - REALLY has taste! Don’t believe his talk about buying the “geekiest” car and just buying a car “with a steering wheel”.

Darren Rowse - The Holden Barina would be unforgivable if it wasn’t for his Audi A4 desires :)

Graham Hill - Ok, I can understand his response given his Tree Hugger blog… but dude, your name’s GRAHAM HILL (2 times F1 champion, won the Monaco GP 5 times)!! With a name like that you have to at least have a tiny bit of a driver in you… LOL! :)

Tyler Cruz - You said it, you’re not a car guy (nothing wrong with that).

Anthony Baggett - “I prefer comfort to style”. That’s handy because both those cars pictured have zero style. Sorry, but it’s true :)

Paul Stamatiou - Slightly modified!? “I drive a slightly modified 2002 Mustang GT with midpipe, catback exhaust upgrades, larger 13″ brakes from the Cobra, springs, struts, shocks, caster/camber plates, welded zinc sub-frame connector to firm up the chassis, plenum & throttle body, 18×9 wheels and tires, ECU reprogram, sparco racing seat and HID headlights” - yeah, that’s only ever so SLIGHTLY modified… ;)

Neil Patel - Dude, how old are you? Cut that umbilical cord and get the Maserati! No, wait… pick a better car because that Maserati is fugly (don’t ever buy a car that looks like a sad face at the front).

David - Cheers mate :) You wrote a great article so I felt compelled to speak, even if it was a bit long hehe ;)

ps. I forgot to mention that you’ve had a nice progression of cars! Any plans to add a 2009 GTR to it maybe? ;)

  25. David Pitlyuk

    01/22/2008 7:44 pm

If I had to spend $70,000 on a new car right now I would get the GT-R. Unfortunately I don’t ;)

Maybe I’ll pick a used one up in the future though (I don’t like to buy new cars anymore). I’d love to test drive one!

  26. Sean Morris

    01/22/2008 8:47 pm

You have till June 2008 to see them. And even then they are going to trickle in. Expect the dealers to have a hefty mark up , unfortunately.

Hopefully I get in one in about a month or so.

  27. David Pitlyuk

    01/22/2008 8:51 pm

Yeah I’m sure I’ll see one (Wish I saw your latest post earlier so I could get to the DC convention center tomorrow!). I know there will be a ridiculous markup, but again, I wouldn’t want to buy new anyway. Maybe in a couple years.

A good friend of mine (R32 GT-R owner) is on the list to get an R35, so I’ll be able to experience one at least :)

  28. Sean Morris

Ahh good stuff, I know of a lot of those guys. I was supposed to go to their DC New Years throw down last year but never made it.

Good luck with your GT-R blog, keep in touch! That’s pretty cool that your parents got you a Typhoon of all cars lol. I guess you left Motorex at a good time huh. Your story is interesting, but it seems like it’s not finished. What are you doing now? Is blogging your full-time gig?

  32. David Pitlyuk

    01/22/2008 9:23 pm

Actually considering you said “we did a motor for his car”, I’m assuming you’re still at RB?

  33. Sean Morris

    01/22/2008 9:28 pm

Blogging is just a side thing I stumbled upon. I always had GT-R information pages , and I figured I should get paid for it, not pay for it. http://tyndago.googlepages.com/

My story isn’t finished. I just write a little here and there , anyway , I am only 34 so I have a few more chapters to go.

I help out the guys at RB still. Here and there. I also export cars to Australia , and we have a car lot. Everything car related. http://www.wholesaledealercentre.com/

Hopefully I will be a lot more involved with some R35 GT-Rs in the coming months.
