How Much Spam Has Your Blog Caught?
My personal blog has been around since only March and as of writing this, Akismet has caught 1,336 items of spam on it. I’m trying to figure out what’s normal. My ActiveTuning blog hasn’t been around for much longer than this one and has caugt 1,669 items of spam. VideoExperiment.com has been around for about 9 months or so and has caught only 352 items of spam.
I’m sure that bigger blogs will get more spam, so we’ll see how it’s relevant…but for now, post a comment with how many years/months your blog has been around, and how much spam Akismet has caught.

07/26/2007 1:17 pmI wish I could remember when I installed the Akismet plugin, but I can’t! I’m pretty sure it’s been under a year though. My blog itself is over two years old. So far, Akismet has nailed 27,241 pieces of spam.

07/26/2007 3:59 pmI installed Akismet in the spring, and since then it has caught 1300 spam comments. The number is actually a lot higher though, since I also use The Geek’s Spam Filter. It automatically deletes anything that contains the most common spam words before sending the comment to Akismet, thereby saving my site and Akismet some processing time. Anything that contains the V word, or other such words, is automatically junked.

07/27/2007 12:25 pmSadly, I have only received 247 since April 14th…guess that says something about how much traffic I get. Upside…I spend less time moderating spam.
I must say the best one to date has been:
“This is test-spam message, if you want stop spam on your site - just email me:”…
How nice, I get to opt-out of future spam comments if I send them my email address!
