Nobody can argue that blogs have been the talk of the web over the last couple of years. For those that can appreciate a good design, like myself, I thought it would be interesting to look at the Technorati Top 100 (Most Linked To and Most Favorited) blogs and see what the best of the best designs were. Now keep in mind that Technorati’s list is organic, meaning it constantly changes. I looked at all of the top 100 from each list on the evening of June 20th, 2007.
Speaking of design, for those interested, I am currently working on a custom design for my own blog here. Do you guys think it would be good enough to make this list? I do know that there are plenty of blogs out there with some amazing designs that can blow some of these out of the water. Feel free to post your comments with any links to what you think is the best of the best.
Without further delay, here’s the best blog design from the Technorati Top 100 list:

06/21/2007 7:35 amI’ve always liked Pronet’s site, on the other hand I think weblogs, inc need a new designer.

06/21/2007 9:07 amI think Weblogs, Inc is decent. My favorite from them is the Autoblog redesign.

I commend your choice of A List Apart. It’s a fantastic site.

06/21/2007 11:20 amDavid: Welcome to the blog, and once again, congrats on making the list
Agreed, A List Apart is up there on the top 5-10 out of this list. My favorite of all of them would probably have to be either Copyblogger or Fadtastic. While I realize the super minimalist style like A List Apart looks good, and is really making a strong display in the design world, sometimes they just look to minimalist to me.

06/21/2007 11:24 amTrue, it’s very minimalistic, and I do prefer use of imagery. My commendation is probably more for the content than the design. There’s a wealth of design info on that site.
I’m with you on Brian Clark’s Copyblogger redesign. Chris Pearson did a sterling job of it.

I’m flattered…to be chosen by you as one of the blog with Best Blog Design…woohoo!!!
Truth is I love the orange too much to even change it to any plain white layout blog…or they called it minimalist ehh? I’ll link your post in my blog too…
Thanks A Million

06/22/2007 7:21 amThere is a hefty cash reward for this, right? I assume it will be presented to me during some sort of lavish ceremony?

06/25/2007 5:30 pmI’ve always been partial to the 2-column layouts but I noticed quite a few in this list are 3-column designs. I’ve been kicking around changes to my own two sites but have yet to take the plunge.
Nice list though!

08/06/2007 9:34 amJust a quick note to say about my recent re-design. I think it’s a step up, but perhaps it’ll have a negative consequence for your list (as it can be subjective).
Thanks again though.

02/24/2008 9:09 pmDear David Pitlyuk,
Just for Your information The number 2 cause of preventable deaths in the USA is traffic crashes.
43,000 annual fatalities which is 116 people killed a day on American roadways.
There are 17,000 daily reported crashes.
The number one cause of these crashes according to the NHTSA and the insurance industry is Unintended Lane Change Crashes.
They attribute 23,000 highway fatalities to this cause.
I say that the crashes are not intended but most of the lane changes are, Most drivers just look and go without turn signal notification and not allowing that split second extra reaction time for anyone nearby to react to.
Unfortunately there are too many drivers using this behavior at the same time on our over- crowded roads.
As a professional driver since 1974 with over 3.5 million miles traveled in my career alone I have seen people killed right in front of my face that I know would still be alive today if the person or persons had first used their turn signals before flying side ways causing the deadly Swerve road run off and more.
It is against the law in all 50 states to change lanes without first signaling and it needs to be enforced!
Stay Safe David.
Respectfully, Heather Derusha
